Pillowcase Dresses!

The Our Redeemer's ladies sewing group met Wednesday, June 18th, to make pillowcase dresses to send to young girls in Africa.
There was a job for everyone in attendance: cutting fabric, pinning bias tape and hems, threading elastic, sewing seams, picking out trimmings, and ironing the finished dresses.
There was also plenty of time to enjoy the luncheon and refreshments that several ladies contributed.
There was a sense of joy that accumulated with each vibrantly colored dress that was completed.
May each dress carry love and blessings to its future owner.

Induction Service Thanks

Pastor Stephen Peterson and Pastor Mike Naylor

Thank you to Pastor Stephen Peterson from the ELCA NWMN Synod, and to Pastor Vernon Nelson (retired) for leading our worship and celebration of induction for Pastor Mike Naylor.

Induction Services for Pastor Mike Naylor

(The following article was submitted to The Pioneer)

The Debs-Puposky Parish will officially induct Pastor Michael Naylor as its pastor on Sunday, June 22nd, 2014.  Our Redeemer’s Lutheran in Puposky will hold a service at 9am and Trinity Lutheran in Debs will hold its service at 10:30am.  Pastor Stephen Peterson, Assistant to the Bishop of the Northwest Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), will speak during both services.  The community is invited to attend these services to formally welcome Pastor Naylor to the Parish.

Pastor Naylor accepted the call to minister in the Debs-Puposky Parish in December 2013 and he began leading services in January 2014.  He succeeds Pastor Jay Borchert, of Debs, who retired in December.  Pastor Naylor is from Bemidji and he and his wife, Mary, raised their family here.  He started lay pulpit supply in 1986.  The first parish he served was the Pinewood-Puposky-Debs Parish.  Since then he has provided pulpit supply for churches in Kelliher, Waskish, Shevlin, Solway, Bemidji, Mizpa, Grand Rapids, Gully and Trail.  Prior to accepting the call at Debs-Puposky, Pastor Naylor was leading up to 50 Sunday services throughout northern Minnesota each year.

Pastor Naylor has a long history of musical performance and ministry.  In 2012 he became one of the original inductees to the North Dakota Rock Country Hall of Fame.  He also has served on three Synod Music Teams in the LCA as well as the ELCA Constituting Convention.  During his first six months of service, Pastor Naylor has enthusiastically dedicated many hours each week to one of the Deb-Puposky Parish’s top priorities: visiting Parish members in local nursing homes that can no longer attend regular worship services in their home churches.

Project Linus Message

A message from Sharon S. to all ladies in the community that enjoy sewing and quilting:

Time to get together again for Project Linus!
Wednesday, June 18th, at Our Redeemers Church.
9 AM    to   3 PM.
We will work on quilts and on little pillow case dresses.
So if you have any trims, such as bias tape, rick rack, lace etc. that possibly could be used on the dresses, and you don’t mind bringing it along, that would be nice.
If you can bring your machine that would be helpful also.

The little dresses will be taken to the Retreat in October.    From there they are sent to Africa for children in orphanages.  We will have more info about the Retreat later.  It is a great day to be at it.

Darlene P. is making a pasta salad for lunch for Linus Day.  Sounds good.   Always food and time to eat.
So just come even to visit.
Hope to see you on the 18th!

The Old Green Sign

The "Old Green Sign" on the corner of Co.Rd. #26 and Durand got a fresh coat of paint last Sunday.

Many thanks to Kylie S. Chris P. and Whitney S. for their hard work in the hot sun!

The old sign looks great from both directions!

Cemetery Flowers

All the flowers and memorials left on the graves in the Our Redeemer's Cemetery have been removed and placed on the bench under the trees.  Removal was necessary for lawn mowing.  Please collect your memorial arrangements soon if you wish to keep them.  Thank you.
