Autumn - Update 10/2/16
10/2/16: The woodland creatures most certainly found the nutritious bounty in the autumnal display at the church. Six days after the installation there were corn husks strewn about the rock garden, cemetery, and parking lot.
If you look carefully, you can see a gray squirrel at the base of the tree just beyond the pumpkins.
Our church president, Clancy, reports the squirrel was trying to pull the entire cob of corn up the tree.
The display and surrounding area was cleaned up late Saturday.
Fresh corn cobs were set out just before worship Sunday.
The donations were pre-peeled this time to prevent a repeat mess.
By the time church was dismissed this morning, several cobs were already half eaten.
And one cob of corn was found on the road near the Puposky Post Office.
Happy Fall!
9/25/16: This harvest display was constructed after worship today with real pumpkins from a member's garden and real field corn dangling from the stalks.
Will the neighborhood birds, deer and raccoons enjoy this bounty during the week?

Ice Cream Social Today!
Today is the big day.
And what a gorgeous late summer day it is!
Please join us this afternoon for the annual Ice Cream Social.
Real homemade ice cream is served with your choice of dozens and dozens of pies. We even have a homemade Gluten-Free apple pie. Free will donations are accepted. And seconds are allowed. :)
We have lots of canopies set up on the lawn so it is a lovely time to sit in the shade and visit with your neighbors and friends.
Inside the church the ladies are hosting a craft and bake sale.
The proceeds support missions such as buying fabric to make hundreds of blankets for Project Linus. These blankets are distributed to law enforcement stations, fire departments, and hospitals as a first response to help children experiencing loss and trauma.
The ladies also monitor a raffle with great prizes and a silent auction.
Outdoors, under the canopies, local musicians from Bluebird will be performing.
Stop by the children's activity canopy to have your face painted, pick up a helium balloon, or dress up as a pirate. All children's activities are absolutely free!
We hope to see you this afternoon!

Church Grounds Project Scheduled
(photo is a representation of how rock and fence panels will eventually be used to screen the propane tank)
The O.R. Council has approved of a church lawn improvement project suggested by congregational members and a "work day" has been scheduled for
Saturday, July 23rd
9am to ?
Stage 1:
The ground directly around the propane tank and the short narrow band of trees directly between the tank and the driveway will be slightly leveled, covered in landscape fabric and topped with crush rock.
This will make mowing around these areas much easier and it will hopefully present a much tidier appearance.
The landscaping materials have been donated and Don and Debbie Wille are leading the project.
Everyone is invited to join in the labor as many hands make light work.
Debbie plans to make a hotdish or sandwiches so there will be
sustenance provided.
Bring gloves.
Feel free to call Don or
Debbie at 243-2368 if you want more information about tools that will be provided and tools that might still be needed.

Sunday School Lesson Theme
On July 10, the Sunday School class will begin a study of the books of the Bible.
Emphasis will be placed on memorizing the order of the books and the major themes and people featured in each book.
The children will be building a reference book that will stay in class until it is finished. They will also be bringing home craft stick lists of the books to practice memorization. Each week a one-page fact sheet about the "book-of-the-week" will be sent home with your child. Please review this sheet as a family so your child can learn as much as possible about the Bible that our faith is based on.
Thank you,
Sabrina Erickson

Message from Smith Family
Tiffany Smith to This is my town: Bemidji
We, JR Smith & Tiffany Smith,
with our son Cortez, would like to thank everyone who volunteered to
help find our son and our cousin, Riley. Between all involved the
volunteers, friends, family, our amazing community, Beltrami County
sheriff's department, Red Lake police, MN state patrol, BCA, fire and
ambulance, bemidji posse and DNR officers. Thank you!
I would also like to thank Red Lake Casino, Luekens, McDonald's, Caribou for all donating and delivering food to the officers and the volunteers. It was very much appreciated as food, coffee etc was the furthest from our minds. Thank you for stepping up in our community and helping this family out in our time of need.
Also, I want to thank anybody else we may have missed, everyone's help all played a part in finding our kids and bringing them home safe and sound!
God Bless our town!

Changes Up Front
The congregation will notice a change near the altar next Sunday:
The pulpit has switched sides with the lectern.
The new arrangement improves the walking space around the kneeling rail. It also allows the rail to be moved out closer to the pews.
President Clancy takes full responsibility for the switch. He would like to give the new arrangement a try for a few Sundays. None of the pieces are permanently nailed to the floor. The change is simply an experiment to better utilize the altar space. Clancy acknowledges that change can feel uncomfortable. He asks the congregation to keep an open mind regarding the switch and he reminds the congregation that the pulpit and the lectern can go back to their original places if the change does not suitably meet the needs of worship services.
