Several Announcements

August was a busy month for our Parish and September looks almost as busy....

The Announcements Page has been updated so please take a look so you don't miss any of the community events coming up soon.  The Lake Julia Dinner Cruise is scheduled for this Sat. Sept 6th!

The two churches in our parish will switch start times on September 7th.
That means for the next year, Trinity will start at 9:00am and Our Redeemer's will start at 10:30am.

There will be potluck after worship service at Our Redeemer's this coming Sunday, Sept 7th.

Last, but not least, Our Redeemer's is in need of volunteers to sign up for the work schedule.  Please add your name to the chart posted in the narthex.  We need volunteers to greet worshipers and prepare communion, read scripture, teach Sunday school, and clean the church.

Thank you to all the volunteers that helped make this past summer and busy August such a successful and enjoyable time of gathering at Our Redeemer's.  Every gift of time and help is a blessing to us all!

Adjustment of Worship Start Times

Pastor Mike and the Parish Council have been discussing changing the start times for the two parish worship services to allow more drive time between Puposky and Debs.  Safety and adherence to start times are the two main concerns.  The Council needs congregational feedback to make the best decision for our parish.  Suggested time adjustments are as follows: 8:30 & 10:30-------9:00 & 11:00--------8:45 & 10:45.  To streamline public announcement and avoid confusion, the Parish Council would like to discuss and vote on this issue PRIOR to the regular September 1st time switch.  If you have questions about this issue please talk to Pastor or any of your Council members.  The Council looks forward to hearing your opinions and preferences on this issue.  Thank you.

Pillowcase Dresses!

The Our Redeemer's ladies sewing group met Wednesday, June 18th, to make pillowcase dresses to send to young girls in Africa.
There was a job for everyone in attendance: cutting fabric, pinning bias tape and hems, threading elastic, sewing seams, picking out trimmings, and ironing the finished dresses.
There was also plenty of time to enjoy the luncheon and refreshments that several ladies contributed.
There was a sense of joy that accumulated with each vibrantly colored dress that was completed.
May each dress carry love and blessings to its future owner.

Induction Services for Pastor Mike Naylor

(The following article was submitted to The Pioneer)

The Debs-Puposky Parish will officially induct Pastor Michael Naylor as its pastor on Sunday, June 22nd, 2014.  Our Redeemer’s Lutheran in Puposky will hold a service at 9am and Trinity Lutheran in Debs will hold its service at 10:30am.  Pastor Stephen Peterson, Assistant to the Bishop of the Northwest Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), will speak during both services.  The community is invited to attend these services to formally welcome Pastor Naylor to the Parish.

Pastor Naylor accepted the call to minister in the Debs-Puposky Parish in December 2013 and he began leading services in January 2014.  He succeeds Pastor Jay Borchert, of Debs, who retired in December.  Pastor Naylor is from Bemidji and he and his wife, Mary, raised their family here.  He started lay pulpit supply in 1986.  The first parish he served was the Pinewood-Puposky-Debs Parish.  Since then he has provided pulpit supply for churches in Kelliher, Waskish, Shevlin, Solway, Bemidji, Mizpa, Grand Rapids, Gully and Trail.  Prior to accepting the call at Debs-Puposky, Pastor Naylor was leading up to 50 Sunday services throughout northern Minnesota each year.

Pastor Naylor has a long history of musical performance and ministry.  In 2012 he became one of the original inductees to the North Dakota Rock Country Hall of Fame.  He also has served on three Synod Music Teams in the LCA as well as the ELCA Constituting Convention.  During his first six months of service, Pastor Naylor has enthusiastically dedicated many hours each week to one of the Deb-Puposky Parish’s top priorities: visiting Parish members in local nursing homes that can no longer attend regular worship services in their home churches.

Project Linus Message

A message from Sharon S. to all ladies in the community that enjoy sewing and quilting:

Time to get together again for Project Linus!
Wednesday, June 18th, at Our Redeemers Church.
9 AM    to   3 PM.
We will work on quilts and on little pillow case dresses.
So if you have any trims, such as bias tape, rick rack, lace etc. that possibly could be used on the dresses, and you don’t mind bringing it along, that would be nice.
If you can bring your machine that would be helpful also.

The little dresses will be taken to the Retreat in October.    From there they are sent to Africa for children in orphanages.  We will have more info about the Retreat later.  It is a great day to be at it.

Darlene P. is making a pasta salad for lunch for Linus Day.  Sounds good.   Always food and time to eat.
So just come even to visit.
Hope to see you on the 18th!

Graduation Quilts

In 2013 Our Redeemer's started the tradition of presenting each high school graduate in the congregation with a quilt.  Last year three grads were given quilts.  Another three young people from our church graduated this year.
The O.R. lady's sewing group again prepared, on behalf of the congregation, three gorgeous quilts.
We wish our graduates all the best.  And we hope that each time they use their quilts they remember how much their Our Redeemer's family loves them!

Congratulations to Mariah and Ronnie...
and Kaasandra!

A Lovely Weekend

So much happened at O.R. this past weekend...
Several folks showed up Saturday morning to clear brush, rake gravel, and tidy the lawn and cemetery.  It only took this dedicated group about three hours to accomplish all that work!  And a few kind people even brought snacks to church for the workers.
THANK YOU!

The private party that celebrated a baby shower in the church basement on Saturday left the facility sparkling clean.
We hope you enjoyed your party and...
THANK YOU!

Two of our three high school graduates were present on Sunday morning to receive the gorgeous quilts the ladies of O.R. made for them.
We are so proud of all of our graduates... and proud of our quilters too!
THANK YOU!

Special music was performed during worship by a lovely young person visiting from First Lutheran in Bemidji.
THANK YOU!

And finally, our church was full with the family of a beautiful little baby named Avery that was brought before the Lord for Baptism this Sunday.  It was wonderful to worship among such a crowd of loving people celebrating this child's special day.
We wish the entire family great joy and peace, and
THANK YOU for bringing this little one to our Redeemer!

Time to clean up the church grounds and cemetery before Memorial Day and lawn-mowing season.

Bring your rakes, shovels, garden tools, wheel barrows, and skid steers to O.R. this Saturday, May 17th. Work will start at 9am and it goes pretty fast if enough people show up. Main jobs include raking gravel/rocks back into the parking lot, picking up sticks, raking leaves, etc. This is an outdoor ONLY event as the church basement will be hosting a private party. So dress for the weather and bring your own snacks and water or coffee.
