Our Redeemer's is part of the Debs-Puposky Parish. We share a pastor with our sister-congregation, Trinity Lutheran in Debs. On September 1st of each year, the two churches switch worship times. This year, Our Redeemer's is worshiping at 9:00 am and Trinity is worshiping at 11:00am. Please join us! Tithes/Offerings may be mailed directly to the OR Treasurer, Rose Erickson. Potluck Sunday!

The first Sunday in the month is rolling around so that means Potluck Sunday is here again!
The meal will begin after the 9am worship service ends (around 10am.)
Bring a dish to share or just JOIN IN the feasting and fellowship.  There is always enough food to go around and the people of O.R. consider it a treat just to visit.
Plus this Sunday we have a baptism to celebrate...so there will be CAKE!
See you this Sunday at the Potluck...

Upcoming Sale Contributions

Some beautiful items have already been contributed to the upcoming Bake & Craft Sale on Feb 23rd from the bounty at NineteenGates Farm.
Here is a dried arrangement featuring natural, painted, and glittery elements.
A lovely wreath made of red osier dogwood and sumac berries...
A sweet Paul & Babe of needle felted wool...
And a hand-knit throw with a gorgeous ruffled edge made from NineteenGates Farm's own Icelandic sheep's wool.  This photo does not do the deep colors of this yarn justice!

Please join us for an afternoon of feasting and visiting at the Annual Pancake Supper next Sunday.  And remember to swing by the Bake and Craft Sale to see these and other handmade items offered on the raffle drawing, the silent auction, and the sale.

Raffle Quilt

It is an O.R. tradition to have a quilt as a raffle prize for the Pancake Supper.  This year, we have a lovely, large quilt donated by Donna St. Peter.
Check back to see other prizes that will be offered in the raffle drawing!

Upcoming Bake-Craft Sale

The Annual Pancake Supper at Our Redeemer's is a great place to enjoy an all-you-can eat meal while you catch up with neighbors or meet new friends that live in the Puposky area!
It is also a great place to find lovely, fun, and delicious gifts created by local artists that donate their wares to the Bake & Craft Sale.
Various crafts that have been already been donated to the sale will be featured on the blog over the next few days.  So check back often to get a sneak peak of the Feb 23rd sale!
Fresh baked goods don't arrive till hours before the sale...so they will have to be a surprise.
Boston Lake Farm is donating a large supply of handmade lip balm to the sale.  Only natural ingredients such as local beeswax, local honey, coconut oil and sunflower oil are used in the making of these 1/4oz. balms.  Peppermint, Almond Cookie, and Vanilla-Mint flavors will be available.

Correction

The Friday (2/14) edition of the Bemidji Pioneer posted in its church calendar section that there would be Community Breakfast at Our Redeemer's this coming Sunday (2/16) at 8am.  This is a MISPRINT.

Community Breakfast is held the SECOND SUNDAY of the month at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church.
(Feb 9, Mar 9, April 13, etc)

Apologies for any confusion this misprint has caused.

Donations Gratefully Accepted...

The Bake and Craft Sale Committee (a team loosely comprised of Mary and Sabrina until more volunteers step forward)  is gratefully accepting Bake, Craft, and Silent Auction donations for the upcoming Pancake Supper event.

Please have your baked goods and craft items to the church by early afternoon on Sunday, February 23rd.  Food items can be (but are not limited to!) large or mini loaves of bread, buns, rolls, cakes, cupcakes, pies, cookies, bars, brownies, fudge, homemade candies, sweet or savory popcorn, jams, jellies, pickles, salsa, and any other delightful treat you can concoct in your kitchen.  Just make sure the goods are on or in a container that guests can take with them.  It is also helpful if items are pre-priced.  But the volunteers can help with that if you are unsure how to price your items.  Remember, even a single pan of goodies is greatly appreciated!

If you are not excited about cooking...please consider sharing one of your other talents with a handmade item for the crafty portion of the sale. It is always exciting to see what our local artists have created this year!
Also needed are seasonal items for the silent auction.  These can be purchased items, handmade items or new items.  Non-perishable craft or auction items may be brought to the church any day prior to the event.  Simply leave a note on your donation as to what section of the sale your item is for.

Please contact Mary Naylor or Sabrina Erickson for more information.
And a huge thank you to everyone that contributes their time and talent to this fundraiser!

From the Pastor's Desk

Editor's Note:  This letter appeared in the February Parish Newsletter.  I have attempted to copy it exactly from the original script.  Apologies for any errors or typos.

Greetings in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit as we all attempt to stay warm during these series of cold spells that we have been going through as the winter season progresses.  We are also in the season of Epiphany which has a much warmer message than Mother Nature seems to be giving us.  We are being reminded of many important and joyous things during this church season as we behold the Lamb of God and are called upon to repent.  I hope that we can remember that the Kingdom of God is like no other kingdom that is merely a geographical location.  The Kingdom of God is an action that is as linear as our baptism and is timeless.  We can see this Kingdom of God as Lutherans as we let our actions reflect and speak for us as we care for each other and our neighbors.  We are bound in love in our relationships with others.  We, as Christians, recognize and respect our neighbors' convictions even though we may not agree with or accept those convictions as being true.

I am truly enjoying the people that I visit in the nursing home and care facilities and I plan to expand the list to people that have moved to town and can't always come to service on Sunday.  I will call to arrange a time to do this.  If anyone wants communion during these visits we can certainly offer that as well.  If anyone knows of someone who would like to be on the list please let me know.

We have survived both annual meetings with ease as everyone attending seems to realize that we are all in this work together and share the same goals.  I would like to see more interaction between the congregations and hope that this would be something we could brainstorm and discuss at council meetings.  It seems the major topic at the moment is the skyrocketing price of propane which is a major concern for the churches as well as the members.

I think that it would be wonderful to see more enthusiasm during our services as we celebrate through the liturgy, prayers and hymns.  This is what Billy Graham had to say on this topic:  "People go to a football game today to shout their heads off, or go to a circus and cheer act after act.  They become enthusiastic about everything conceivable, but when it comes to spiritual matters they think we are supposed to become somber and wear black, and never have a good time or enjoy a religious event."  Let us see if we can approach our worship celebration with more joy, enthusiasm, and thankfulness to our God who by grace---cares for us---protects us---and loves us.

Pastor Mike

Our Redeemer's WELCA

Editor's note:  This WELCA summary appeared in the February Parish Newsletter.  I have attempted to copy it exactly from the original script.  Apologies for any errors and typos.

Our Redeemer's WELCA includes all of the women of our congregation.  Here is a little information about a few projects that the ladies of Our Redeemer's take part in over the year.  We have regular monthly donations that we make to Children's Fund and World Missionary for Orphans.  We support Bible-a-month with a donation each month.  Project Linus has been a very special project for us, with close to 1000 quilts having been made and donated.  There are other missions we support such as the Local Food Shelf, Meal for $1 at Lutheran Student Center at BSU, Havenwood Nursing Home birthday party, Ronald McDonald House, Holiday for Kids, and Holiday meals.  Another mission is the yearly Thankoffering by the Women of the church.  It is a way of showing our thankfulness for all we have and a way to share with those less fortunate.  This consists of...each time you think about how thankful you are for something add a little change to a designated container.  In November we have a special service during regular Sunday morning worship, at which time we turn our offerings in.  Thankofferings are used by Women of the ELCA for the total outreach of the women's organization.  Another mission Our Redeemer's ladies have participated in for quite a number of years is "The Red Stocking Project."  We are given a little red stocking, usually about the beginning of the new year.  We started out by adding 1 dime for Jan., 2 dimes for Feb., 3 dimes for March and so forth continuing on throughout the rest of the year...totaling $7.80.  Recently we decided to increase our giving to 25 cents, totaling $19.50 yearly.  After collecting the stockings in December we determine if there are any special needs in our community to give the offering to.  This year it was decided to do a variety of gifts to about a dozen different folks.  It is a way to show that we remember them and thank them for their participation in the community over the years.  There are usually red stockings available in the entry area of the church...if not ask any of the ladies about them.  We welcome your participation in all that we do.

We don't hold any formal monthly meetings anymore but still keep our projects going and keep a monetary account for those projects.  There is a financial report included in the annual meeting pamphlet each year.

The Ice Cream Social is in August at which time we hold a craft sale and then in February at the Pancake Supper we have a bake sale.  These are the two money making projects helping to make it possible to carry out the various missions.

We share Bible study the first Monday of each month at Darlene Pearson's home.  We welcome and invite anyone to attend.
